This year’s Luraine Tansey Travel Award Fundraising Dinner will take place at a Kansas City institution, and will feature delicious, authentic Kansas City barbeque (Kansas City’s highest rated, according to Zagat’s Survey 2006). Jack Stack BBQ has been in business in Kansas City since 1957. The Tansey dinner will take place in their private dining facility, The Freight House, a historic building across from Union Station. The menu will include several types of barbeque and numerous side dishes, as well as many options for vegetarians. We’re also planning some fun fundraising entertainment for the evening – details closer to the conference.
The event cost is $45, which includes bus transportation from the conference hotel. Please come and support the Tansey Travel Award fund, and have a great Kansas City experience!
"Party Like It's 1982!" at the Tansey Dinner!
That's right, we're offering a new twist on the 25th anniversary of the
VRA for the theme of the Tansey fundraising dinner this year - Party Like
It's 1982! For those of you over a certain age, there's probably lots of
items from that era still in your closet. For those of you who were still
toddlers, a quick trip to your local thrift store will yield many suitable
items with huge shoulder pads and daring sparkly appliques.
We are offering wonderful prizes, and here are some categories to
consider - you can go big or small!:
- Best all-over 1982 look - women's division
- Best all-over 1982 look - men's division
- Best 1982 hairstyle
- Best 1982 headgear (caps, turbans, headbands, etc.)
- Best 1982 TV-show inspired look (think Dallas, Dynasty, etc.)
- Best 1982 song or band inspired look (Google "1982 hit songs"
for ideas)
- Best 1982 movie inspired look (just Googled "1982 movies" and
got "Blade Runner" and "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"!)
- Best 1982 Silver look - combine both Jubilee themes!
So, get out those shoulder pads, skinny ties, legwarmers, hair gel, etc.,
and pack 'em up for the Tansey event!
