VRA Silver Jubilee Memory Booklet
The Silver Jubilee Committee has created a booklet commemorating the 25th anniversary of the VRA.   (You’ll find it in your registration packet.)   This booklet presents a brief history of our organization, and highlights the accomplishments of many of the individuals who have contributed to it.  Thanks go to Scholars Resource for their generous support of this project.  We hope you will enjoy this souvenir!

Nancy DeLaurier’s Slide Curators Video
As part of the VRA Silver Jubilee history display, we will present a special video produced by Nancy DeLaurier in 1988 (19 years ago).  This 12-minute video stars Nancy DeLaurier as narrator, with a student demonstrating Christine Sundt’s Mylar tape method of slide binding.  See one of our great founding members in action.  Special thanks to Jacqueline Tygart (Art and Architecture Librarian, Drury University) for preserving this gem and bringing it to us on DVD.

Luraine Tansey Oral History Video
To help preserve information about a pioneer in visual resources, an oral history video interview of Luraine was made in June 2006. The video and audio tapes, with CD and DVD copies, and a print transcript are going into the VRA Archives. A short excerpt of this av material will be part of the history display.

Keynote Speaker: Eleanor E. Fink
Senior Cultural Heritage Specialist
World Bank

Our keynote speaker, Eleanor E. Fink, was VRA President from 1988-1989.

Eleanor Fink has been a leader and an inspiration through her pivotal work on many national and international projects. Presently she is a senior cultural heritage specialist at the World Bank and serves as the World Bank's Foundations Coordinator. Before her post at the World Bank she was the Director of the Getty Information Institute (GII) in Los Angeles.  There she played an instrumental leadership role in the conception and implementation of the following projects, some of which daily affect our professional lives:  the Union List of Artist Names, the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, Categories for the Description of Works of Art, Protecting Cultural Objects in the Global Information Society (Object ID), the Museum Educational Site Licensing Project, and L.A. Culture Net/Faces of L.A. In addition, while director of GII, she conceived and launched Object ID -- an internationally recognized information standard that helps recover stolen objects. These model policies, tools, and methods have facilitated today’s global dissemination of cultural information.

Prior to working at the Getty, Eleanor was Chief of Research Support at the Smithsonian’s Museum of American Art where she conceived and initiated SOS (Save Outdoor Sculpture), a nationwide computer based inventory of information on the condition and history of sculptures and monuments as reported by trained volunteers throughout the United States.
