  1. DOCOMOMO Downtown Atlanta
    Wednesday, March 17, 9–11 a.m., $20

    Join a representative of the Georgia Chapter on DOCOMOMO (DOcumentation and COnservation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods of the MOdern MOvement) for a special walking tour of Downtown Atlanta focusing on Modern sites, including buildings designed by SOM, FABRAP, John Portman, Robert and Company, and other nationally and regionally recognized designers.
    Participants will learn more about the development of Downtown Atlanta during the 20th Century and visit several historic sites. Included is a guided tour of the Marcel Breuer/Stevens and Wilkinson designed Atlanta Central Library. An introductory program will look at the impact Modern architecture made (and continues to make) on Downtown Atlanta.
    The tour will start in the lobby of the hotel.


  2. Historic Midtown

    Step back into Midtown Atlanta’s origins at the 1883 Peters House and its surrounding streets. This turn-of-the-century neighborhood is rich in its variety of residential architectural styles and stories of notable residents.

    Directions: MARTA: Exit at North Avenue station (N3). Walk 3 blocks east along North Avenue to the intersection of Piedmont Avenue. Cross Piedmont and turn left. Peters House will be on your right.


  3. Historic Downtown

    Experience Atlanta's earliest skyscrapers district, beginning at the historic Candler Building and winding through interiors of several of Atlanta's landmark structures. You'll see how Atlanta's downtown architecture developed from Victorian period styles to Art Deco to modern, and learn about the businessmen, architects, and prominent families who created the city's early commercial center.

    Meet in the Candler Building lobby, 127 Peachtree Street.


  4. Fox Theatre

    Explore the mysterious interior of the Fabulous Fox Theatre, one of the few remaining exotic movie palaces of the 1920s. The building was originally the Yaarab Temple Shrine Mosque built in 1920. Middle eastern and Egyptian designs create a dreamlike spectacle of grandeur. Learn about the inspiration behind the Egyptian Ballroom, Grand Salon and Spanish Room, as well as the many other intriguing rooms within the Fox, without performance crowds.

    Meet beneath the marquee, 660 Peachtree Street.
