The Baltimore Conference Local Planning
Committee
Welcome
to Baltimore !
Welcome to the 2006 Visual Resources Association
Conference in Charm City. Located on the Patapsco
River where it flows into the Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore
has all the advantages of a large city with cultural
attractions, restaurants and institutions of higher
education, while its unique neighborhoods maintain
a small town feeling. “Bawlmer” as natives
say, is a friendly place, where the big-haired,
hometown “Hon” is an icon along with
the blue crab, the Baltimore oriole and the raven.
We revel in the quirky, kitschy persona made famous
by John Waters and celebrate our diverse cultural
heritage.
We hope you will enjoy this opportunity to learn
more about what’s new in our profession as
colleagues share their expertise in a wide variety
of workshops, seminars, sessions and user group
meetings. There will be plenty of opportunities
to renew friendships, meet new colleagues and enjoy
tours, receptions, and the fun and excitement of
the VRAffle and “Tansey Bowl” fund-raising
events.
Our conference location on the Inner Harbor will
give you an opportunity to explore all the best
that Baltimore has to offer, with shops, restaurants
and bars, museums and other cultural attractions
all within walking distance or easily accessible
by public transportation. We hope you enjoy your
week!
