Wolfsonian Reception, Open Galleries, and Special Collection Library Tours
Sunday March 6th, 5:00 -7:00 pm

Located in the heart of the Art Deco district, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University showcases American and European decorative and fine arts produced between 1885-1945. From propaganda posters to world's fairs memorabilia, the unique array of objects at this remarkable museum offers visitors a refreshing and thought-provoking journey through the modern age.

Join us for a reception hosted by the Wolfsonian. The galleries will be open in addition to special tours of the Wolfsonian's special collection library -- take a peek at this South Beach surprise. (There is a limit of 10 people at a time for the library tours and sign-up sheets will be available at the conference registraton desk.)

The Wolfsonian will admit VRA registrants any time during the conference week for free -- just show your registration badge at the ticket desk.

Ask the Expert Corner

Are you special? Unique? Your situation, funding, experience and expectations aren’t like anyone else’s. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a brainstorming session on a topic of interest to you with a VRA expert? This one-on-one mini-workshop would consist of an hour with the expert in your choice from a list of topics covered by those in the know. You can ask the questions you always wanted to, and based on your individual needs and professional situation, together you and your expert can make the cloudy clear, craft a plan, or create a list of priorities and goals.

This will be a free-of-charge event held daily during the lunch hour from 12:30-2:00 pm. There will be a sign-up sheet; first come, first served. Different experts will be available on different days. Possible alternative scheduling or small groups may be allowed at the discretion of the expert.


First-Time Attendees and New Members Breakfast

Breakfast reception in the Starlight Roof Ballroom for new members of VRA and for members who are attending their first VRA annual conference. Be sure to register for the Mentor program!

     Keynote Address by Peter Jaszi
Monday March 7th, 7:00 pm

Professor of Law at the Washington College of Law, American University, Peter Jaszi is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and an experienced copyright litigator.
He has served as a Trustee of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A., and in 1994, he was a member of the Librarian of Congress’ Advisory Commission on Copyright Registration and Deposit.
In 1995, he helped to organize the Digital Future Coalition. With various collaborators, he has written a standard copyright textbook and several articles on copyright history and theory.

The VRA Member's Reception

Join fellow VRA members for the highlight event of our annual conference. Dinner will be served and a cash bar will be available. The presentation of Distinguished Service Award will be presented at approximately 8:00 pm.

VRA Annual Business Meeting & Town Hall
Tuesday, March 8th, 8:30-10:30 am

The Annual Town Hall and Business Meeting is the official forum for conducting Association business. The agenda includes the President’s State of the Association; select officer reports; updates on current and future Association projects and activities; the recognition of outgoing officers, committee chairs, and appointees; the induction of incoming officers, committee chairs, and appointees; the presentation of the VRA Travel Awards, a presentation on the 2006 annual conference city; and questions and announcements from the audience. All members are encouraged to attend, a continental breakfast will be served.

Luraine Tansey Education Fund-Raising Dinner
Wednesday, March 9th, 6:30 pm

Want to show off your Mona Lisa smile or your Salvador Dali moustache? Join us for a particularly special Tansey Dinner at the annual conference in Miami. This year we ask that you come dressed as your favorite artist or art work.Can't visualize yourself dressed as the Chrysler building?  Then we encourage you to come dressed for the Caribbean, or a la Gaugin, as we listen to Latin rhythms pool side. Various prizes will be awarded for both categories of attire. 

This is a fund-raising event to benefit the Luraine Tansey  Education Fund. The menu will include a variety of savory, traditional Caribbean dishes, including many vegetarian specialties.  Registration is required as tickets will be issued. Costuming is not mandatory for participation in the Tansey Dinner, but we do encourage you to join in the fun!
